Lawn tractors, mowers, line trimmers and leaf blowers, are part of a lightly-regulated group of fossil-fuel burning products known as “non-road” power products

“Non-road” power products have become the worst polluters on the market today with emissions more than 30 times worse than “on-road” gas vehicles and efficiency down near 20%. Gas powered non-road equipment is so polluting that the EPA has concluded that just one 2-cycle line trimmer can produce as many emissions in one hour as one full size pick-up truck traveling over 300 miles! This is in addition to the literally deafening noise levels of up to 100 decibels produced by some gas-powered tools.

With over 40 million acres of turf grass in the US, the EPA estimates that our gasoline and diesel-powered lawn equipment emits 54 Billion pounds of C02 per year!

Fact: One hour of operating a gas powered, commercial zero turn mower produces the same volatile organic compound (exhaust) pollution as 40 hours of driving an average car. (EPA)

Fact: One hour of operating a gas-powered leaf blower produces the same exhaust as a new car driving for 11 hours. (CA Air Resources Board, 2017)

Fact: One gas mower produces 87 lbs of CO2, and 54 lbs. of other air pollutants each year. (EPA)

Fact: Over 17 million gallons of gas are estimated to be spilled each year refueling lawn equipment– more oil than was spilled by the Exxon Valdez!(Clean Air Foundation)

Fact: Typical lawn equipment produces noise levels of 1,000 decibels. The EPA recommends that people be exposed to no more than 700 decibels of environmental noise in 24 hours.

Fact: The U.S. lawn care industry accounts for 5%-10% of the nation’s air pollution.

We build healthy soil with the use of high-quality, organic compost when indicated or desired.
